En esta línea se vienen desarrollando investigaciones básicas referidas a las interacciones que se dan entre distintos patógenos acuícolas y sus hospedadores. Se refieren fundamentalmente al estudio de factores de virulencia de distintas especies de Vibrio, así como de la especie Photobacterium damselae subsp piscicida
